Hi I’m Ricky
I own, run and teach guitar lessons and guitar classes in our music school ‘Ricky’s school of rock’, in Linthwaite, Huddersfield. We don’t only just do guitar stuff! We also do drum lessons, bass lessons, singing lessons and awesome rock band sessions.
During my musical career I’ve been in tons of bands (original and covers). I’ve been a cabaret artist gigging the sadly impoverished clubland scene, I’ve been a band front-man singing for a 14 piece soul band, a guitar teacher at what was the Huddersfield Technical College, (Now the Kirklees College), a band agent with a roster of over 30 bands. I’ve been a sound engineer with residencies at venues all over Yorkshire. I’ve also been an events promoter and responsible for 8 venues based throughout Yorkshire. I’ve also managed a band…the one and only time, i will EVER do that! I used to run the Yorkshire Gig Guide. I’ve also toured the UK and Europe as a singer/guitarist. I’ve been a roadie for the 1970?s chart toppers “The Bachelors’. I’ve written articles and pieces on learning how to play guitar for published media.I’ve also worked in theatre composing music for shows performed all over the UK. I’ve even mimed keyboards on stage at one point! (I got £300 for an hours ‘work’ for that!)
However the main musical ‘Job’, I’ve had over the years is that of being a a guitar teacher. I’ve been teaching guitar for 20 years both privately, for rehabilitation institutions and in further education. I’ve learned a lot from teaching guitar, about myself and other people, and always consider myself to be a perpetual student of guitar. There’s always something new to learn, which i guess is why I’m still obsessed with the guitar 24 years later.
This is my personal site about my philosophy on teaching guitar and being a musician. Hopefully I’ll be able to find time to post interesting articles about how to approach playing guitar with not only an efficiency, practical, and business point of view, but from an aesthetic point of view too.
I’ll probably post some lessons on here too that hook up to YouTube with some downloadable PDFs to print off.
